Hyogo Cultural Centre invites WA student groups to visit us to learn more about Japan, particularly the special relationship between Western Australia and Hyogo Prefecture.
There is a Japanese traditional room set up with tatami mats and shoji screens in our Centre and you can also see many other display items. Some realia that may catch your eye includes beautiful Japanese wedding kimono, calligraphy, kites, dolls, kendo equipment, a tea ceremony setting and much, much more. Depending on the time of year, special seasonal and festival displays, such as the Dolls Festival and Children’s Day Festival, can be admired while the students learn about Japanese life and culture. Hyogo Cultural Centre also has the largest resource library of Japan related materials in Perth, so maybe you could organise a research day out. Or your students can watch a Japanese video or DVD on a large screen!
Although bookings are essential, student groups are welcome to visit the Centre for a general viewing for FREE. However, a staff member would not be allocated to this type of visit and the accompanying teacher would be required to provide any explanations of the various realia on display. We would also be more than happy to organise an enjoyable and educational Japan related activity for a small fee per student. Popular activities include calligraphy and hanko (name stamp) making, tea ceremony, festival craft, origami, obento workshop, Hyogo ni ikimasho! workshop, and round robin quiz plus games. If you are studying a particular theme, we are also happy to try and design a specific program for your students. Most activities cost between $7.50 and $12.00 per head (a tea ceremony demonstration attracts a separate fee) and we can arrange a Japanese obento for an additional $10 per head if required. The duration of the visit is negotiable and will depend on whether you want to include lunch. To complete one activity it is recommended that you allow 1 hour. 40 students can be seated comfortably in the classroom, but larger groups can sometimes be accommodated. It is recommended that you phone the office directly to discuss your requirements.
Should you wish to discuss your school excursion or make a booking, please contact us on 9385 9002 or email email@example.com Please note that bookings are only available on Tuesdays through to Saturdays as the office is closed on Mondays and Sundays. Thursdays can also be difficult to arrange during school term due to our Japanese conversation courses for adults that run from early morning to early afternoon.
